June 1-5, 2026
Our learning this week:
- We learned about "ou" and "ow" in the beginning, middle, and end of words.
- We practiced our King Ed words, which are words like "make" and "bike" where the "e" makes the vowel say it's name.
- We began designing our own comic book characters for our final writing projects!
- We started a clay project with our buddies!
- We had SO much fun at the science centre! Thank you to all of our volunteers for taking time to spend the day with us!

THANK YOU TO OUR CASINO FUNDRAISER VOLUNTEERS!!!
A huge and heartfelt thank you to everyone who has signed up to volunteer at the casino fundraiser today and tomorrow! Your willingness to give your time makes an incredible difference, and we are so grateful for your support.
We recently learned that Nose Creek School raised over $87,000 through their event—an amazing result—and we are hopeful that our opportunity will bring in a similar amount to NLS. Every hour you are contributing is truly invaluable and will have a meaningful impact on our students for the next three years.
Thank you again for your generosity, commitment, and support of our school community—we couldn’t do this without you!
LIBRARY BOOKS DUE BACK BY FRIDAY, JUNE 12
Please ensure that any library books your child has signed out are returned by Friday, June 12.
If your child has lost their book, please email your child’s teacher to let them know and we will get an invoice ready so you know how much you will need to pay to replace it. (Any books not returned by June 12 will have invoices sent home as well.)
🌈 IMAGINATION DAY: DREAM, CREATE, EXPLORE! 🎨
On June 11, we have a spirit day called Imagination Day! This is a special day dedicated to creativity, curiosity, and joyful learning!
On Imagination Day, students will have opportunities to explore their creativity through activities such as storytelling, art, building, dramatic play, and problem-solving challenges. Classrooms will be buzzing with ideas as students dream big, collaborate with peers, and bring their imaginations to life in fun and meaningful ways.
Optional: Students can dress up if they wish to be ANYTHING that they want to be. This could be a unicorn, a flower, a rockstar, or how they were on the first day of school. If they don't want to dress up, that's fine too!
Why is imagination so important?
Imagination is more than just play—it is a powerful tool for learning and growth. When children use their imagination, they:
Imagination helps children become flexible thinkers and prepares them for a future where creativity and adaptability are key. It also reminds us all of the joy and wonder of learning!
We encourage families to ask their children about their Imagination Day experiences and celebrate the ideas they bring home. You can support this at home by reading together, creating art, building, or simply encouraging open-ended play and curiosity.
We can’t wait to see all the incredible ideas our students will dream up!
RAINY WEATHER CLOTHING
Students should come to school dressed appropriately for the weather each day. Calgary’s weather can change quickly, so it is important that families are prepared.
On rainy days:
When rain is in the forecast—or if it is already raining when students leave home—students should wear rain boots and a raincoat or waterproof coat. Bringing an umbrella is also recommended.
Extra clothing:
We ask that students keep a spare set of clothes in their backpacks at all times. Even with proper outdoor gear, students may still get wet. Having dry clothes available helps ensure they stay comfortable throughout the day.
Unexpected weather:
If an unexpected storm occurs when rain is not in the forecast, students will remain indoors until it passes. In the case of weather warnings or alerts issued by Environment Canada (such as hail, strong winds, extreme smoke, or blizzard conditions), we will take appropriate steps to ensure student safety.
Outdoor time:
Please note that regular rain does not mean students will stay inside. Fresh air and opportunities to play and socialize are important for students’ well-being.
Thank you for helping ensure your child is prepared with appropriate outdoor gear.
REGISTER EARLY FOR SCHOOL BUS SERVICE (2026–2027)
Early registration is essential to ensure your child has bus service in place for the start of the school year.
Families who require school bus transportation for 2026–2027 must pre-register through their MyCBE Parent account. Registering this month is critical—families who miss the deadline may experience up to a six-week delay in accessing bus service while their child is being added to the system.
Avoid delays and ensure a smooth start to the school year by registering as soon as possible.
