April 25 - May 1, 2026
Our learning this week:
- We learned about when to use a c or a k when spelling words.
- We practiced retelling stories by reading fairytales. We read two fairytales: The Three Billy Goats Gruff and Goldilocks and the Three Bears. We took time to retell the beginning, middle, and end with pictures and words.
- We practiced our addition and subtraction by playing a game called "Give One, Get One". Ask me how to play!
- We continued learning about living things. We have been candling our goose eggs every two days. We also visited a grade four classroom because some of their chicks hatched!
- We went outside for a land offering. This is an Indigenous tradition of thanking Mother Earth by spreading tobacco on the land. We talked about the medicine wheel while we did the land offering Only Mrs. Nakaska touched the tobacco!

FOOD BANK FOOD DRIVE – HELPING CALGARY FAMILIES IN NEED
Our school community is coming together to support families in Calgary through our upcoming Food Bank Drive. Many local families are facing rising food costs and unexpected challenges, and even a small donation can make a meaningful difference.
By donating non‑perishable food items, our students and families help ensure that children and parents in our city have access to healthy, nourishing food. Contributions to the Calgary Food Bank help support emergency food hampers, school programs, and community partners that serve families right here in our neighbourhoods.
This drive is also a wonderful opportunity for our students to learn about kindness, empathy, and the power of helping others. Together, we can show that our school cares and that when a community works as a team, we can make a real impact.
Students can bring in non-perishable food items, such as canned goods, pasta, rice, cereal and other pantry staples. (Please avoid sending expired or opened items, or items that require refrigeration.)
Thank you for your generosity and for helping us support Calgary families in need! 💙
