March 30 - April 4, 2026

Our learning this week:

We focused on learning the job of the letter 'y' at the end of words. At the end of one-syllable words, 'y' makes a long i sound (it says the letter name). Here is how you can practice with your child at home!

We worked on adding details for super sentences! We took a simple sentence like "I like to swim.", and we added details to make it more interesting like:
    • Who do you like to swim with?
    • What are you doing when you swim?
    • When do you like to swim?
    • Where do you like to swim?
    • Why do you like to swim?
    • How do you like to swim?

We learned about collecting data and asking questions! We made several different kinds of graphs this week. We asked what kind of shoes we wear in our classroom, what our favourite type of ice cream is, and what our favourite season is. We worked on asking our own question and graphing the data we collected. We explored graphing through our centres, too.

We had the opportunity to explore a nature kit from the City of Calgary! Through this kit, we learned about birds and seasonal changes. We learned and matched different bird sounds and eggs to the type of bird, we explored how different birds use their beaks to eat, we learned about different nests, and we guessed which birds stay in Calgary during the winter or migrate! We explored how to make different nests through loose part materials.

We explored chalk pastels and made some beautiful flower art for our classroom!

ENJOYING THE SNOW

Winter, Students, Snow, Snow Angels, Recess, Winter Kids, Outside

Winter weather brings plenty of excitement for our students! Fresh snow turns recess and outdoor time into an opportunity for fun, movement, and exploration. When bundled up in warm coats, hats, mittens, and boots, students can safely enjoy activities like building snowpeople or snow structures, making snow art, going on nature walks, or playing active games that keep their bodies moving. Getting outside—even on snowy days—supports physical health, creativity, and a love of being active in all seasons.

Families can continue this fun beyond the school day by enjoying snowy spring weather together—whether it’s going for a neighborhood walk, sledding on a small hill, building snowpeople, or heading out for a family hike to notice signs of spring beginning to appear. A little fresh air and shared outdoor time can make snowy days something to look forward to at home as well.

SCHOOL COUNCIL

Meeting, School Council Meeting

Education is changing in Alberta, and parent perspectives matter. School Council is one way families can stay informed, share ideas, and help support student success. Whether you’re curious, have questions, or want to get involved, this is a welcoming place to start. There will be time for open discussion and conversation about what is happening in our school. Take a peak at our agenda and our minutes from last month to see what we will be chatting about.

Join us online on Tuesday, April 7 at 6:00 pm—we hope to see you there! (To join the meeting, you will be able to click the following link: https://teams.microsoft.com/meet/21895959027149?p=szRlpqCNbVd3ewqU8Z.)
