April 20-23, 2026

Our learning this week:

  • We continued to care for and observe the changes in our goose eggs!
  • We learned about the suffix "-ed" and how it can make 3 different sounds at the end of words. We learned that it can make /t/, /d/. and /id/ depending on the word! We sorted different words according to the sounds.
  • We went outside to enjoy Mother Earth on Wednesday morning and we found some ladybugs that have come out of hibernation!
  • We focused a lot about Mother Earth and Earth Day this week! We wrote postcards to Mother Earth and thanked the earth for our favourite things. Some of the things we were thankful for were sunsets, insects, planets, the park, and all the food we get!
  • We built the earth using our recycled loose part materials.
  • We practiced our addition by using dominoes. We chose a domino and subitized the two numbers on either side. We took those numbers and created an addition or subtraction equation to solve!
  • We began learning about living plants and animals. We learned that living things need to have four things to be considered "living":
    • They need energy (i.e.: food, water, sunlight)
    • They grow and change
    • They reproduce (they make more of themselves)
    • They respond to the world around them

What Is an AGLC Casino Fundraiser — and Why Do Volunteers Matter?

An AGLC casino fundraiser is a unique fundraising opportunity that allows schools and charities to raise significant funds — not through gambling, but through volunteer support.

How Volunteering Works

Over a two‑day period at a local casino, parent and community volunteers help with supervised roles such as:

  • Transporting chips between tables and the count room
  • Assisting casino staff with chip inventory
  • Counting casino proceeds at the end of the shift

✅ Volunteers do not gamble
✅ All activities are closely regulated by AGLC

✅ No experience is necessary – training is provided on site
✅ Volunteers do not need police clearances so anyone over the age of 18 is able to volunteer

How This Helps Our School

A portion of the casino’s proceeds is donated to our school as a thank‑you for providing volunteers. Thanks to the time and commitment of our volunteers, this casino fundraiser will raise approximately $70,000 for our school.

These funds directly support our students by helping pay for:

  • Classroom resources and technology
  • Field trips, field trip buses and enrichment programs / activities
  • Music and physical education activities and equipment
  • School events and learning opportunities

❤️ Why It Matters

One volunteer shift can make a huge impact on our school community. The funds raised help keep costs down for families while enhancing the learning experiences we offer our students.

We are incredibly grateful to everyone who will save the date to volunteer their time - your support will help create a richer, more vibrant school for all our students!

An updated version of the 2026-2027 Instructional Calendar has been finalized and posted.

Changes included:

  • The non-instructional day previously identified for Friday, Oct. 23, 2026, was moved to Monday, Oct. 19, 2026, to accommodate the provincial referendum that would see schools utilized as polling sites.
  • For Unique Settings, this move means that the Non-Instructional Day, Oct. 19, will be attached to the October break for students, Oct. 9-18.

Staff at these schools will be expected to be in attendance on Monday, Oct. 19.

The development of instructional calendars is guided by current legislation, provincial examination schedules, and stakeholder feedback. Each calendar includes a minimum of 181 instructional days, as well as 10 system-wide days allocated for parent-teacher conferences, professional development, and other organizational activities.

Please visit the system calendar page or your school’s website for more information.
