February 23-26, 2026

We had an incredibly busy, short week! Here's what we learned about:

  • Mrs. Nakaska's brother visited our classroom to talk about his experience as a Skeleton slider for Team New Zealand. He shared information about skeleton, the equipment that he used, and how the sled track works. Some students got to try on the equipment and we did a fun simulation with a sled track video that was from the recent Milan Winter Olympics!
  • We learned a lot through the week about Pink Shirt Day.
    • We read stories about how our words matter like "Chrysanthemum" and "Pink is for Everyone"
    • Grade five leadership students presented in our classroom about Pink Shirt Day and facilitated a learning task! They had students write something kind on a heart and it was displayed during our assembly.
    • The grade five leadership students also worked incredibly hard for our Pink Shirt Day assembly! After we reflected on what we learned in our visual journal.
  • We learned about open and closed syllables.
    • Open syllables do not have a consonant and the vowel says it's name (such as no, be, we).
    • Closed syllables have a consonant and the vowel says it's short sound (such as not, bed, cat).
    • We learned how to count syllables and that every syllable needs to have a vowel.
  • We discussed different types of clothes that we need for each season. We drew ourselves in each season with the right clothing choices.
  • We began learning about fractions! In grade one, we learn about wholes and halves. We read the story "Peg + Cat: The Pizza Problem" and created pizza orders that we heard in the book with our playdoh! We also divided objects into equal shares fairly with a partner.
  • The grade 5 students presented their science fair projects with us in the prairie!
