January 12-16, 2025

Our learning this week:

  • We reviewed how to tell the difference between b and d.
  • We began learning about r-controlled vowels. This is when a vowel is right before an "r" and the "r" makes the vowel silent. For example, in the words 'her', 'were', and 'for'.
  • We have been reviewing how to write sentences and ensuring that we have:
    • A capital letter at the beginning
    • A subject, verb, and a complete idea (a naming part and a telling part)
    • Finger spaces in between words
    • Punctuation at the end
  • We have been using words to describe the property of objects. We chose an object in our classroom to write about. Ask me what object I chose and what I wrote about!
  • We have continued to learn about addition strategies. We learned about how to decompose numbers using a number bond, using a number line to add, and drawing pictures to help us add.
  • In Social Studies, we have been learning about Indigenous culture and landmarks. We learned about the story of "Okotoks" (the word Okotok in Blackfoot means "rock"!) and understood why it was an important area. You can listen to the video about the story of Okotoks here! We also learned about why places are special and wrote about a special place to us.
  • In Science, we have continued to explore coding! This will help us with a story project we are going to work on next week.
  • Our community walk to the Coventry Hills mural was great! We were able to see part of the history of Calgary up close.
