December 1-5, 2025
Hello families! This week we learned about:
- The digraphs /sh/ and /ch/. These are important sounds that are in words like "ship", "chin", and "crash".
- We wrote about our animal habitat trioramas. We wrote about a choice of bears or geese. We wrote about where they live, what they eat, and how they get ready for winter. Ask me what I wrote about!
- We also built an animal for our triorama out of clay! We painted them and these should be coming home next week.
- We started our new math unit on Measurement. We practiced measuring and comparing objects using non-standard units (like blocks). We have been having fun practicing our new centres!
- We explored changes in properties using playdough! We bent, cut, stretched, rolled, and broke our playdough to see what would happen. We learned that no matter changes we made to our playdough, it still stayed as playdough!
- We learned about Natural Landmarks (like mountains, rivers, lakes) and Constructed Landmarks (like buildings, parks, houses). We compared the two in our visual journals with a focus on the mountains and the Calgary Tower. We wrote sentences about each using the sentence starter: I like it because ______.
- We explored robotics and coding with our buddies with Ozobots! We created a pathway for the Ozobot using different paths.

DECEMBER’S “WEDNESDAY FESTIVE WINTER WEAR DAYS”
Christmas Sweater, Christmas, Ugly Sweater Day, Xmas, Spirit Day, Holiday Sweater
Each Wednesday this December, we will have three ‘Wednesday Festive Winter Wear’ Spirit Days. Students are invited to wear festive sweaters, t-shirts, hats, headbands, socks, etc. Anything festive that they would like to wear on that day is great. (This is optional.)
DRESS FOR THE SNOWY WEATHER NEXT WEEK
Students are outside in the snow a lot during the day. Please help them leave home with snow pants, snow boots, mittens or gloves, hats and a warm coat. It makes outdoor learning and outdoor play much more enjoyable.
Packing extra mittens and extra socks in the backpack is also helpful in case they get wet during the day.
